Independent Reading
- Students will select books from the school or classroom library. Any book from outside must be approved beforehand by the teacher. (Note to parents: I have not read all of the books that students may select from; therefore, I ask that you contact me if you find any objectionable content. I will arrange for the student to find a new book without penalty.)
- Students will have approximately 4 weeks to read their books. Students may choose longer books (>500 pages) but should realize that the deadlines are firm regardless of page count.
- Every day students will read for 10-15 minutes during class. Some exceptions may exist such as shortened classes. The rest should be completed outside of class.
- Students will complete a reading log, tracking the time and pages for each reading session in the first and third quarters. This document provides deadlines for weekly reading check-ins through FlipGrid (see below). The reading log does not require parent signature. During the second and fourth quarter, students will be responsible for tracking reading on their own and completing weekly "check-in" activities by each Wednesday. These activities will be available on a printed bookmark that students receive in class.
Book Talks and other reading check-ins will be posted on Flipgrid.com
