​Class Agenda
  1. DSS #4: Students watched two videos on English language. They answered three questions to gauge listening and comprehension skills. Please visit my website or review the notebook for the specific websites and questions. (See DSS slides)
  2. Literature: Partners continued their study of fables, folktales, and myths. They chose 5 myths from http://tinyurl.com/n9mre to read. They completed the handout and then wrote a one-page modern fable in a Google doc to be shared with me. Go to http://duncansenglish2.weebly.com/fable-folk-tale-myth.html for documents associated with the two-day assignment.

​Class Agenda
  1. DSS #3: Students choose a picture and write a short tale. (See the DSS slides)
  2. Literature (fables, folk tales, and myths):
    1. Part 1- independent reading: students read p382-385 and answered #7 p 386. They then read p 504-505 + 508-512 and answered #8 p 513.
    2. Part 2- collaborative work: Students worked with their seat partners to complete a series of short activities analyzing various stories. We will finish the activities tomorrow.
  3. Who Am I (WAI) Project: I reviewed the purpose and scope of the project, providing students with specific guidelines and samples. Students then had time to work on their pre-writing.

Class Agenda
  1. DSS #2: We completed sentence corrections in our DSS journals. Please see the class binder or go to my website to copy the assignment.
  2. Vocabulary: We reviewed key strategies for analyzing words including context clues, structural clues, word association, and deconstruction. We completed p291-292 and p 295 of the Unit 13: Vocabulary and Spelling handout. You can find copies of the packet and worksheet in the make-up work folders.
  3. Literature: Intro to fables. In order to prepare for our lesson tomorrow, we completed a short handout, Understanding Theme with Fables, that presents various brief fables. Due to limited class time, students took the rest to finish for homework.
  4. Rhetoric Project: Partners had 30 minutes to continue working on the project. The final project is due Thursday, 8/31. There will not be any more class time to work.

  1. DSS #1: We reviewed proofreading marks and completed sentence corrections in our DSS journals. Please see the class binder or go to my website to copy the assignment.
  2. Vocabulary: We reviewed key strategies for analyzing words including context clues, structural clues, word association, and deconstruction. We discussed Latin and Greek roots, suffixes, and prefixes. We followed up with a root word graphic organizer. You can find copies of the packet and worksheet in the make-up work folders.
  3. Rhetoric Project: Partners had time to continue working on the project. The final project is due Thursday, 8/31.

Welcome Back!!! 

Agenda

  1. Opening Activity: Get a class folder from me. Sign the integrity agreement and student responsibility form, complete the goal statement, and place all 3 documents inside your class folder. Label the folder with your first and last name.
  2. Introduction to class: We reviewed class policies and procedures and student guides. Go to duncansenglish2.weebly.com and click on the link for the first day. It will have copies of slides and handouts there. You can also see hard copies of the slides in the notes binder. Please review the information.
  3. Transition Activity (TA): We signed up for Remind and I introduced the class website and survey. Surveys are linked on my website and due to be completed by Friday 8/31.
  4. Rhetoric Project: We reviewed the slides discussing visual rhetoric. I covered rhetoric, font, color, the use of visuals. Partners began working on the rhetoric project. See hard copies of the slides in class or visit my website and look under rhetoric. The projects are due by Thrusday.  
  5. Closing activity: If we had extra time, we completed the student survey. You can find a link to the survey on my website under resources. If all else fails, see me for a hard copy. Surveys are due by Friday.
