**I was out again today. I asked students to complete the following work in my absence:**

 
“The Piece of String”
Students can access the story through two methods as below.
  • online at http://tinyurl.com/z55hbal
  • pages 796-801 in the green textbook (1st & 2nd periods) / handout (4th period)
 

Questions for “The Piece of String”
Answer the following questions for the story. Be sure to use A.C.E.S. for each answer.
  1. Why does M. Malandain accuse Maître Hauchecorne of picking up the lost pocketbook?
  2. What do the people think of Hauchecorne when they hear someone else has returned the lost item?
  3. Why does Marius Pamuelle give the pocketbook to his employer?
  4. Why don’t people believe Hauchecorne is innocent and make fun of him instead?
  5. Why does Hauchecorne keep claiming his innocence?
  6. Make an inference as to why Hauchecorne dies at the end of the story.

​Write an alternative ending for “The Piece of String.” Your ending should be at least 1 page and reviewed for good grammar and spelling.
