Assignments: Last day to AMP or make up unit 5 or 6, parts of sentence, and Iliad tests will be Wednesday, November 30th.
Today in class students completed a brief test on the Iliad. Students only answered questions for the book that they read and analyzed in their teams. The test is open-book and consists of short answer questions. Approximately 50% are basic story recall and the rest are analysis. While the text served to support students, it was not required for the test nor should students have relied on it too heavily.
After the test, I asked students to read p 268-271 in the text in order to learn about Virgil and Roman society. I reviewed the highlights of the background information, and then we began reading the text by listening to a recorded version while reading along. I stopped at important points to discuss the events in the story and make sure everyone understood the text. I also asked students to begin a comparison chart of Achilles and Aeneas. I provided a couple of starters such as Achilles is a Greek warrior and Aeneas is a Roman king.
