Before completing college, I worked in the food industry as a manager. I have also held jobs in retail, mostly customer service as well as a stay-at-home mom with both of my children.
I attended several schools including Mercyhurst College and Penn State Behrend (Erie, PA), Seminole State College (Sanford, FL), and The University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL). One might say I was a non-traditional student. I have two bachelor's degrees.
B.S. Secondary English Education------University of Central Florida 1999
I taught English at PRHS for ten years until taking a break for family. Rather than go back full time, I moved into a position at Seminole State College wherein I was the English Instructional Support Specialist. Basically, I assisted the students who came into the writing center. I helped with a variety of papers, literature courses, and even grammar and writing for ESL students. I left that position when my family decided to move to North Carolina. For the first couple of years we were here I worked in several different roles including an online writing tutor and a writing consultant for businesses. I returned to the classroom in the fall of 2016, accepting a position at Cary High School.
During my tenure in Florida, I taught a variety of courses including: expository writing, creative writing, English I, II, III, and IV (both academic and honors) as well as serving as advisor for the literary magazine and Sophomore class. I mentored first year teachers, chaired a 9th grade PLC, and represented my school at a conference in Washington D.C. I was also very involved outside of the classroom, serving as secretary and president for the band boosters and committee secretary for my son's boy scout troop.
About me- personal information
I love living in Cary and teaching at Cary High School. Many people ask if I miss Florida, and the easy answer is no. I don't miss the heat or tourists. I lived in or near Orlando for twenty years, and I visited Disney many times. I'm ready to explore the rest of the world.
I have been married for seventeen years, and I have two children. My son is twenty-four and loves to play his trumpet. He plays with the Cary Town Band as well as the Raleigh Little German Band. My daughter is eight. She'll be in third grade at Briarcliff Elementary. I also have a three-legged cat named Smoky and a round little black and white cat name Millie-moo.
